Definition: A compound-complex sentence includes at least two independent clauses and at least one dependent clause.Examples:

  • “She reads books, but they went to the park after they finished their homework.”
  • “Although he was tired, he finished the task quickly, and they went out to celebrate.”

Characteristics:

  • Contains multiple independent clauses and at least one dependent clause.
  • Often uses coordinating and subordinating conjunctions.
